ADONISFX
AdonisFX is a digital anatomy framework for creature effects: muscle simulation, skin sliding, flesh dynamics, and anatomical rigging. You can learn much more on the AdonisFX page.
AdonisFX runs in Maya and Houdini on Windows and Linux (64-bit). Please check out our documentation pages for the latest requirements for AdonisFX.
Yes, the core simulation and deformation tools work consistently across both platforms, though the UI and workflow adapt to each application’s native paradigms. If you’re familiar with AdonisFX in one platform, the concepts transfer directly.
Please check out our documentation pages for the latest requirements for AdonisFX.
Yes. You’ll need batch licenses for render/compute farm nodes. You can purchase batch licenses on Pro and Enterprise tiers. If you’d like to discuss further, please contact [email protected]
No, Interactive licenses will not run in batch mode. Batch licenses are required to do this. If you’d like to discuss further, please contact [email protected]
Indie licenses are for individuals and small teams. Pro and Enterprise are for larger companies. Full details are available on our pricing page.
No. This is a longer topic that you can read more about here.
LICENSING & PRICING
You will need a paid license if you’re:
- Creating content for clients or paid projects
- Working at a studio or company (even as a solo employee)
- Selling assets, plugins, or content created with Adonis or Shift
- Using Adonis or Shift as part of your commercial workflow
However, remember that you can run a 30 day free trial on our products by downloading and installing. It’s easy.
No, evaluations are for non-commercial purposes. When you’re ready to use it in production, you can purchase a license online, or contact [email protected] if you want to discuss things further before you buy.
Commercial use includes:
- Any client work (paid or unpaid)
- Studio or production work
- Freelance projects
- Creating assets for sale
- Any work that generates revenue
Non-commercial use is anything that has no client or revenue. This includes:
- Creating your portfolio or demo reel
- Artists making personal art for social media
- Learning tutorials and practice
- Hobby projects with no client/revenue
If you’re unsure, get in touch and we can help guide you.

You need to purchase floating licenses and install a floating license server. Then the machines in your network can dynamically connect to the different servers via environment setup. Contact [email protected] for further guidance.
Interactive licenses are for people to use on their workstations. Batch licenses are for running ‘headless’ on compute/render farms. You cannot run a batch license interactively, and you cannot run an interactive license in batch mode.
Contact [email protected] and we can discuss your needs with you. Remember, we offer monthly pricing so that you can scale according to your requirements.
License validation needs to access the internet, which is required for node-locked licenses. For floating licenses, the client machines do not need to have internet access - just the license server. Please refer to our documentation for further guidance.
Yes, you can contact us to let us know you need to change your license to a different machine. Contact [email protected] and we can handle this.
Contact [email protected] for studio enquiries.
Contact [email protected] for site license enquiries.
Customers purchase through our website, which uses Stripe to handle payments and subscriptions. For large studios, please contact us to discuss.
Yes, we offer monthly licensing options. Please check out our Try|Buy page for more information.
Nothing, we stop charging you and your software license will run out at your renewal date. You will not lose access to any of the tools or projects you’ve created, but if you want to keep using Adonis or Shift, you will need to renew your subscription.
Yes, students and educators from accredited institutions can request educational licenses. Please contact us and we will get you set up.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ADONISML
AdonisML is a machine learning system for characters and creatures built with AdonisFX. It adds two new capabilities: an ML Deformer and SmartTissue, along with all of the tools required to train and control these systems on your own assets.
The ML Deformer trains a neural network on your AdonisFX simulation data and replicates those deformations at interactive speeds, without running the full simulation on every frame. Smart Tissue adds a volumetric simulation layer after the skin cluster, driving material properties like stiffness and volume preservation through a neural network rather than a surface approximation. The two deformers can be used independently or in sequence.
AdonisML is offered as a separate product that includes everything in AdonisFX.
AdonisFX is a physics-based simulation framework. It builds up character anatomy layer by layer, including muscles, tissue, fat, and skin, and simulates how each behaves in motion. The results are physically plausible and highly controllable.
AdonisML takes a trained AdonisFX simulation as its input and uses machine learning to reproduce that deformation in real time. Once trained, it runs fast enough for interactive use and playback, making it well-suited for animators, game engines, real-time previews, and production contexts where simulation speed matters.
The two products are designed to work together: AdonisFX generates the ground-truth simulation data that AdonisML learns from.
Yes - while we have run experiments using the ML deformer with non-Adonis data, the full capability of the system comes through when you train on an AdonisFX simulation.
The training process has two stages. The first is data simulation: running your range-of-motion sequence through AdonisFX to generate the samples the model will learn from. For a full-body biped character, extracting 1,200 samples from 9,000 frames of motion data took around 3 hours on a standard workstation with an RTX 5090. The second stage is the actual model training, which took around 4 minutes for the same character.
The simulation step is where most of the time goes, and it scales with character complexity and sample count. The model training itself is fast.
Reliably, and this was a deliberate design goal. The deformer responds correctly to poses the training data never included, and moving one part of a character doesn't produce unexpected deformation elsewhere on the body. Most ML deformers struggle here; poses outside the training set tend to break the illusion, with unwanted movement appearing on unrelated parts of the character. AdonisML is designed to avoid that.
Yes, but it isn’t included in our standard free trial. To discuss access and evaluate whether it’s the right fit for your production, get in touch with us directly.
